This piece reimagines the concept of a still life by integrating a variety of elements that represent different dimensions of the iconic city. At first glance, London & Gin might appear as a simple still life, but a closer look reveals an unexpected interplay of scales—a gin bottle juxtaposed with the flowing Thames River, where a boat traverses the scene.
The contrasts in scale invite the viewer to explore beyond the ordinary, blending the intimate with the expansive. The gin bottle represents the stillness and elegance of a moment captured, while the boat on the Thames hints at the movement and life of London itself. This duality challenges the boundaries of the still life genre, making it both familiar and fantastical.
Through this artwork, I aim to capture the essence of London—not just as a physical place, but as a convergence of contrasting elements: the still and the dynamic, the small and the grand. It’s an exploration of how different scales coexist, inviting viewers to look beyond what is immediately visible and discover new connections in what might otherwise seem commonplace.
